What's new?
We are currently (more than ever before) focusing on programming, so I was too busy to post some updates. Juraj is 400km far from me, so instant messaging and remote source code repository are our best friends now :) We are going to spend October at home, suspended from any of our job duties. We will be working fulltime whole month here in Prague on Intype. This will definitely be the greatest step in development.
SonyaEditor is doing very well and we are starting to be proud of it. Editor now fully supports Unicode, and is flawlessly rendering Hebrew, Thai or whatever you can imagine in Unicode. We are preparing some internal tests of rendering engine, encoding detection and encoding conversions. I'll let you know how it went. We also have new and slick text-run based styling engine, that will be soon joined with parser. In the background, the 'web team' is silently working on Intype website, that will be launched in first days of October.
There is also one big change to Intype. We decided to leave Lua, and replace it with JavaScript for scripting, that is more common for web-developers, and its implementation supports Unicode, so it saves us from a lot of trouble in the future.

First off, I'm really looking forward to you releasing this...and I'm excited to see you'll be working on this more in the coming month or so, I think it could fill a real void.

Great news, keep up all the good work.
For me, and I think most rails peeople, the 'support for rails' would be:
1) Live (i.e. automatically refreshed) folder/files browser pane (like Textmate) - must be auto-refresh to pick up any newly generated files from the generators that rails has, should work just like textmate in this regard
2) support for ERB, embedded ruby - basically this is syntax highlighting *within* another syntax, in this case ruby syntax highlighting within (x)html, with the ruby code starting/finishing with <% and %>
3) this is already covered - snippets (preferably compatible with textmate but not a neccessity)
4) Subversion support would be awesome too! :0D
And this final one is just because we're on windows
5) the ability to open a tab with a command line console in it, this would be *very* cool since there aren't any nice terminal apps for windows, and in rails development it's good to have 3 or 4 console windows open, if these could be tabs within Intype then it would be simply incredible!

I must say, that I'm Rails developer too. So I understand all of your needs and will try hard to implement them. I think that the biggest problem, chris b mentioned will be tabbed console. But this is very good idea.
We are not planning project file management in alpha, but it definitely is on our todo list. Syntax-highlighting is no problem, because we are using the same mechanism as Textmate.
Intype will be using generic file access, so SVN, CVS, FTP, DAV, or even CMS content can be supplied transparently to Intype's editor.

about tabbed console, it can be like firefox. you can use a one instance and open all in it or you can have multiples instance and all the new docs will be in a new window.
I have two question:
Intype will be open source?
Do you have plans to port it to linux?

I've been looking for a Textmate for windows type editor for awhile now. Intype seems to be exactly what I'm looking for.... But my question now is, will Intype be free? or do you have to pay for a license?

Instead of using * for modified files, you could just use a 'red sheet of paper' for modified files, and green for saved ones... (CVS style)

What i like most in TextMate (and of course in all mac apps) is that the menubar isn't in the window. this prevents that you use it which is i think very cool, cause you learn to se the texteditor s an texteditor. a way to hide the menu would be cool.
what i also like is the drawer, which is not within the window and let's you focus on the editor panel.
and i would highly recommand to support TextMate Bundle compatiblity. so you can focus on the app it self and not the language support. but be carefull, cause many bundles include BASH scripts.

Intype is a Windows application, and therefore is conforming to standard windows applications behaviour and design; to what users are used to, and what users know.

Wow! A textmate-like text editor that is scriptable in javascript?
But Textmate will run any 'shebanged' language. Controlling textmate with ruby is supposedly one of the most significant benefits, and the ability to use _any_ language is quite incredible.
While lua is great, I definitely prefer the use of javascript. But what about the other languages?

You got to understand difference between active and passive scripting. Active is used in Intype. Provides bindings to JavaScript, which can communicate with all components of Intype directly. You can access parser tree without need of you own parser (or XML library), you can open and batch process files (adding headers, converting, or whatever), add new menu items depending on current state of editor, create windows, wizards or access project manager tree. All with one language. All in runtime. However, Intype JS API provides access to functions for running and capturing output of any command in Windows.
Would you like to script in Windows batch? There is no reasonable way to mimic BASH on Windows. This is the best solution, and I think, that active scripting will be much more useful than pasive.
I have to repeat it once again: Intype is not Textmate. Intype is inspired by Textmate. Mainly by it's scopes, selectors and snippets. Intype walks on it's own way, using what is good among large set of editors (like jEdit, SciTE, Dreamweaver), but is improving and defining new features, that we all are missing.

Great to see all the progress You guys make and I must admit as many of the previous speakers, that I can't wait til You release the Alpha... :)
One note though - why not to support *any* scripting language by providing an interface for plugging in support for new languages.
And while at it - why not support any language available through Windows Scipting Host?
That would open up the choice of the language in snippets same as TextMate, but it would still be "active scripting"...

hey martin!
just before you locked Intype's web site i took a glance at the blog design and it's amazing. I'm more troubled about the logo, the font you used in the logo is similar to the Microsoft fonts. and because Microsoft has a negative figure in a lot of peoples minds, I'm worried it would give a bad first impression.
anyway, I'm looking for the alpha release!
at-least give as some screenshots or an update post.

I'd just like to say that some of you guys should really read the comments before you write your own.
Especially people who keep asking if it's going to be free, and/or open source, GPL'd.
The oss question has been answered already (in this thread even!), and the free question -- I mean, come on!
The guy said he took off from work/suspended projects (that he gets paid to do) for all of October just to haul some tail and crank this thing out of the door ... would you do that for free?
I'm not remotely associated with this project in anyway and I find it iritating .... yeesh ... if you have somehting constructive to say, then say it.
I'm a bit of a hypocrite since this comment itself isn't all that constructive, but I just can't believe how annoyingly selfish some people are.
